Creating Lasting Memories

Shane Waldroup and Scott Barnes curated a charming boutique ‘Cotton Row Uniques’ at 4615 Poplar Ave #3 in the heart of East Memphis filling it to the brim with antique furniture, intriguing décor, cool gifts, vintage jewelry all displayed with a touch of whimsy in every corner and overlaid with yummy scents to tantalize your senses. Scott has a passion for antiques and an eye for rare pieces. “We pick out every piece we offer,” he says. Shane states, “We steer clear of big volume pieces opting to fill the shop with unique items that tell a story.” Every piece has a history, so customers are not just buying furniture or a decorative item, they are selecting pieces to create lasting memories.

Shane and Scott have quite a history with FFL. They started their support by attending the Halloween party fundraisers that were the season finale celebration for our original ‘A Place At The Table’ (APATT) house parties. As time went on, they began hosting APATT events in 2008. Shane served on the FFL Board for 4 years and they are top donors of our Annual Holiday Toy Drive and sponsors of the Big Gay Dance Party and other fundraising events. The forward-thinking civic leaders shared, “As a community we are getting passed the gay and HIV stigma, but we must continue to work on race relations. We are all on this journey together! Memphis is an amazing city with amazing people and one day maybe people can look past colors.” If you are interested in learning more about Friends For Life, becoming a sponsoring or donating, please email mamie.pike@fflmemphis.org.

Like other small businesses, having a storefront on lock down has made Shane and Scott think of creative ways to keep their clients engaged by providing unique items to sell. Shane said, “With me being in the pharmaceutical industry for over 25 years, I used resources to bring in custom hand sanitizer and now we are in the process of selling fun, yet functional face masks. This has allowed us to help those in need for personal protective items. We are offering curbside pickup Monday thru Friday 11am till 3pm.” Thank you Scott and Shane for ‘Cotton Row Uniques’ and for the memories!
