Follow Your Dreams

Chuck Guthrie & Larry Tyger have quite a history and trained eye for finding antiques and nostalgic collectibles. Larry formerly coordinated large antique shows across the nation while Chuck owned an award-winning antique and design shop and later worked as Vice President of Marketing for home decor chain Kirkland’s. “Our favorite thing to do is look for unusual pieces.” Chuck said, “We both worked in retail and dreamed of opening a store together.”

Market on Madison really is a dream come true. The delightful shop is filled with an ever-changing inventory of antiques, vintage décor, one of a collectables, repurposed pieces and custom artwork from artists such as photographer, Jessica Miller and Jana Wilson. There's a large selection of retro jewelry, candles, gifts and more. A stroll through the market will delight your senses and engage your remodeling bug as you peruse the many unique pieces waiting for adoption. When asked where they find the treasures, they said, “We had a lovely collection amassed over about a three-year period before opening. Recently, we flew to LA for vacation and drove back looking for unique pieces along the way that we would not find in the Mid-South. We hit Santa Monica, Vegas, Albuquerque, Fort Worth and everywhere in between; we are always on the lookout. Both hunting and finding is fun, but the hunt is absolutely the best.”

Chuck and Larry are Friends For Life neighbors, the shop is right around the corner. When FFL was looking for event staging, they stepped up in a big way and have become an integral part of our family of support. They shared, “We are dedicated to investing in community causes and we believe in the Friends For Life mission, ‘to prevent the spread of HIV and help those affected by HIV/AIDS live well.’ We were looking for a place to advertise and FFL was looking for fundraising partners, so it was a perfect fit! We have sponsored a Holiday APATT Party, CLUE, Big Gay Dance Parties, Art Dash, and other fundraisers for FFL.” Thank you for your support! Your contributions are key to fulfilling our mission and the success of our client service programs. If you would like to learn more about being involved with Friends For Life or how to become a sponsor/donor, please contact mamie.pike@fflmemphis.org.

Market on Madison showroom is open Monday - Saturday 11am - 5pm. While this pandemic shut them down completely during quarantine, it made Chuck & Larry better at communicating with customers and using social media to inform folks about stock. Chuck said, “We relied on Facebook and Instagram to serve as a virtual showroom, and will continue the practice, so reach out and we will get right back to you. If you wish to make a purchase, we will even simply coordinate the sales transaction and curbside pickup. We have really enjoyed keeping in touch with our customers, who are more like friends.”

Chuck and Larry hope folks are as excited to enjoy the showroom again because they are so ready to see their customers once more! They exclaimed, “We look forward to hosting another Margarita on Madison shopping event and raising a toast with our customers. But for now, we are so happy to see regulars and meet new friends. We have committed financially to stay open and fight for the success of the business. We are so thankful for our dedicated support network.” We are thankful for you two and the beauty you bring to our lives.
